Our Mideast Trip -- March 1999

Egypt--March 12-21: Cairo

Above: We visit a Coptic church, then go up the Cairo Tower (above right), where we get a fine view of the city (far right) & the Nile.

Left: The citadel built by the great Muslim ruler Saladin in the 12th century.
Below left: The Mosque of Sultan Hassan.
Below: The dome of the Mohammed Ali Mosque.
Right: The speaker's "platform" at the mosque.
Below: The Cairo traffic: No rules (forget the white lines), no tickets & pedestrians put their lives on the line! In a word, "horrific" (worse than Rome!).
