Referee evaluation form: Download it as a Word, WordPerfect or Text document; fill it out; & email to Mac, Larry & Joe (AND your club referee coordinator).

Reporting Game results:

Both coaches (win, lose or tie) should email scores to ldmark@verizon.net as soon as they can after the game. (I post these scores on our website as I receive them). Names of girls who score or assist -- along with top defenders (coach's nomination: 1 point for outstanding defense, 2 points for a super, super job) -- can be sent either with the score or later. (I usually update individual stats on Monday or Tuesday.)

Updated Nov. 26, 2013 - Final

SYC Makes It Eleven in a Row

West Springfield High School, Nov. 3, 2013 -- On a cool fall night under the lights, two Springfield/South County Youth Club (SYC) teams met to decide the HSGHSL end-of-season championship.

The two SYC teams -- one coached by Jon Rucker and the other by Jim Miller -- had finished first and second during the regular season, with the Rucker team finishing with an undefeated 9-0-1 record and Miller's girls in second place with a 7-2-1 record.

The championship came down to quick strikes in the beginning of each half. In the first ten minutes, a nice cross from Jamie D. on the left side to Marina R-H. resulted in a goal and a 1-0 lead for Miller's girls. The opening seconds of the second half saw a long clearance up the middle from defender Molly R. that took one bounce before being brought under control by Marina R-H., who took a shot that went by the keeper and took one bounce to the back of the net for a 2-0 win and the championship for the "Millertime" squad.

The Rucker girls had multiple shots on goal, but were stymied by the Millertime defense led by goalie Jei-Si A., along with fullbacks Molly R., Rachelle R., Alicja G., and Meg G. Strong midfield play came from Tara T., Cindy O., Hannah S., Jen A., and Vicky B. Rucker's girls all contributed to a solid team effort in a tough-fought, evenly matched, back-and-forth-game between the two teams.

Assistant coaches for the Miller team are Bruce Kaplan, Bill Gaughan and Pete Faragalla, while the assistant coach for the Rucker team -- which was the tourney champion in spring of 2013 -- is Brian Perryman.

An SYC team has now won the past eleven consecutive championships in the HSGHSL end-of-season tourney.

Miller's team advanced to the Championship Game on a 4-1 win over a Braddock Road Youth Club (BRYC) team coached by Josh Rock. In that game, the Millertime team struck first with a goal by Jen A. on a nice cross from Marina R-H. Later in the first half, a corner kick from Tara T. went off the defender and into the goal for a 2-0 lead.

Rock's girls came back with a goal early in the second half to draw close, but then the Miller squad put the game away with two strikes from Jamie D., one on a nice assist by Vicky B. and the second assist going to Marina R-H. Outstanding defensive players for Millertime were goalie Jei-Si A., along with fullbacks Molly R., Rachelle R., Alicja G., and Meg G. Strong mid-field play came from Tara T., Cindy O., Hannah S., Jen A., and Vicky B. Rock's defense was led by Alexis E. and Summer S.

The Rucker team won their semi-final game 2-1, defeating a talented Vienna Youth Soccer (VYS) team coached by Dan Leach, Nick and Joanna Vadala and Mike McClaugherty. Rucker struck first with a high shot off the cross bar that came straight down, hit the goalie in the back of the legs, and went in the goal. Early in the second half a low corner shot from the right side got past the keeper for a 2-0 lead.

Leach came back with a shot from beyond the penalty box that got by the keeper for the final 2-1 score. Both Rucker and Leach credit their entire teams for outstanding play and a team effort in a fun game between the two clubs.
